There is a companion system in the game, you'll get phone calls before going on a mission offering you an alternative way to complete it, which just resulted in a gun fight anyway but it'd strengthen your relationship with them. I also quite liked the system they used for you to unlock weapons, you actually have to earn them by doing missions for a merchant.ĭiamonds are the currency in the game and you get them through missions and finding them in the world with your little tracker, I remember always being SKINT when I played so I believe they're quite difficult to come by. It has been years since I played it but I enjoyed the gunplay - though the enemies do take quite a few more bullets to kill than in 3&4. You can use buses to travel to very specific points on the map - for me this was frustrating because it almost always meant you'd end up in a gun fight before getting to your mission due to how far away the fast travel points were from where I wanted to go. There's also barely any fast travel in the game, as people have said - this is a game that focuses on a very gritty, realistic experience. This was also before Unisoft perfected their open world formula so you won't find any towers that need to be climbed and the map will have pretty much no markers.
You'll drive through an outpost to get to a mission, kill everyone in there - go on and complete the mission 2 minutes later, go back to the outpost and all the enemies will have respawned and you'll need to take them out (or just book it out of there). You'll spend 90% of your time in gun fights, there are outposts all over. This game will test the fuck out of your patience.
I don't think it's as accessible as the sequels - you'll either really enjoy it or you'll fucking despise it. It's challenging compared to Far Cry 3&4. It's definitely more difficult but it's not always more difficult in a fair way, it becomes frustrating pretty quickly, most of the night missions are bullshit because the steakth mechanics don't work, but if you stay stocked up on supplies you get used to the fighting and it's not too bad. Not sure if it's design choice or not but they are far less proactive as far cry 3 and 4, so once you get used to it and get a few guns it becomes much easier to control the pace and location of the firefights. The AI to me seems dated although it plays out really well in the jungle and shanty towns. Malaria can strike at any time and fucks up your vision and movement and requires you to press a button to take pills, gun jams are what they sound like, but in the end they're both just RNG mechanics that become frustrating as you get into longer fire fights. It also has two elements that sound cool, and sometimes are, but also just turn into a nuisance as you get used to it - malaria and gun jamming. It doesn't have things like marking enemies or super well planned out outposts, and the enemies that drive around "patrolling" will definitely kill you if you aren't prepared. I disagree it's that overwhelmingly punishing. The views of the moderation team do not reflect the view of Microsoft or its subsidiaries.Įh.
